Newmar Corporation is recalling certain 2011 through 2013 Ventana, Dutch Star, and Mountain Aire Class A motor homes built on Freightliner XB and XC custom chassis manufactured between January 25, 2010, and September 19, 2012. These vehicles have connectors for diode jumpers that may come loose, creating an open circuit that affects two critical brake-related functions: the cruise control disengagement system and the brake light illumination system.
When these diode jumpers are loose, the cruise control may fail to disengage when the driver applies the brakes, and the brake lights may not illuminate to signal the driver's braking intention to other vehicles. Both conditions increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Affected owners should contact Daimler Trucks (DTNA) Warranty Campaigns Department at (800) 547-7012 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, by email at DTNA.Warranty.Campaigns@Daimler.com, or call the Customer Assistance Center at (800) 385-4357 after normal business hours. Daimler Trucks (DTNA) will notify owners on behalf of Newmar, and Freightliner dealers will inspect the diode jumpers to make sure they are fully locked in place and will correct the vehicles as needed. The recall is expected to begin January 28, 2013.
