What happened

Chrysler is recalling certain 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty vehicles and 2002-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles because a component in the air bag control module may fail, causing the front airbags, side curtain airbags, and/or seatbelt pretensioners to deploy unexpectedly while driving. This unintended airbag deployment increases the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a supplemental jumper harness to the airbag control module at no charge. According to the recall notice, the remedy for Liberty vehicles was expected to be available in April 2013, and the remedy for Grand Cherokee vehicles was expected to be available later that year. Owners should contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753 for more information about scheduling service.
