Toyota is recalling certain 2006 through 2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250h vehicles manufactured between October 2005 and September 2010. The rear tie rod could fail if the adjustment nuts were improperly tightened during service, causing the suspension arm to develop unwanted movement and rust that damages the threads. A failed rear tie rod will cause an abrupt change in vehicle alignment and could result in loss of vehicle control and increased crash risk.
Toyota will notify affected owners beginning November 30, 2012. Dealers will inspect the rear tie-rod nut for looseness, replace any loose tie rods, and install instructions to prevent improper servicing in the future. Owners of recalled vehicles should contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus at 1-800-255-3987.
