  • Brand CARLISLE

What happened

Carlisle Brake and Friction Company is recalling certain Hydrastar and Hydrastar XL trailer brake actuators manufactured between October 5, 2011, and December 9, 2011. A rotating component in the hydraulic pump missed a required heat treat operation, causing the actuator to wear faster than normal. This defect could lead to hydraulic pump failure and loss of braking ability in the trailer, which poses a risk of losing control of the trailer and potentially causing a crash, serious injuries, or property damage.

Owners of affected brake actuators should contact Carlisle Brake and Friction Company at 1-800-542-0972 to arrange for replacement of the hydraulic pumps at no charge. The company began notifying owners and dealers about the recall on March 1, 2012, and dealers will perform the replacement service.
