What happened

Motor Coach Industries is recalling certain 2011 MCI J4500 motor coaches manufactured between December 1, 2010 and February 28, 2011 that are equipped with ArvinMeritor MC16 and MC16 Type Tag axle assemblies. The bolts connecting the axle housing to the spindle may not have been properly heat treated, which could reduce their strength and compromise the joint's integrity, potentially leading to a vehicle crash.

ArvinMeritor is working with MCI to identify and notify affected owners. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact ArvinMeritor at 1-248-435-1725 or MCI Customer Service at 1-800-241-2947 to arrange for the recall remedy.

THE BOLTS USED TO CONNECT THE AXLE HOUSING TO THE SPINDLE OF THE AXLE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY HEAT TREATED, RESULTING IN POTENTIALLY COMPROMISED HARDNESS AND STRENGTH THAT, IN TURN, COULD LEAD TO REDUCED JOINT INTEGRITY.
