What happened

Navistar is recalling certain model year 2011 IC CE and RE model school buses manufactured from February 22 through March 16, 2010 that are equipped with passenger flip seats. The weld retaining a reinforcement rod inside the seat back frame tube may fail, allowing the rod to fall out. Without this reinforcement rod, the seat strength may be compromised, increasing the risk of personal injury or death in a crash. The affected seats do not meet federal safety standards for school bus passenger seating and crash protection.

Navistar will notify owners and dealers will repair the seats at no charge. The recall began on July 16, 2010. Owners of affected school buses should contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825 to arrange for the free repair.
