Suncream for children (Nivea)

Is my product affected?

Suncream for children

  • Brand Nivea

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Nivea Sun Kids sunscreen products sold in certain markets contain a labeling error on the French version. Due to an incorrect translation, the French label incorrectly states that babies and small children should be exposed to direct sunlight, when it should state the opposite—that babies and small children should not be exposed to direct sunlight. This misleading information could lead to excessive sun exposure for infants and young children. The affected products include three models: Nivea Sun Kids swim & play latte solare SPF 50+ (model 85833), Nivea Sun Kids swim & play SPF 30 (model 85832), and Nivea Sun Kids latte solare protettivo SPF 50+ (model 85486), which come in blue plastic tubes or bottles with yellow lids.

The manufacturer initiated a withdrawal of the product from the market effective April 19, 2016. A new adhesive label with corrected instructions and warnings in multiple languages was affixed to the products. The source does not specify what action consumers should take regarding products they may have already purchased.

This can potentially result in children and babies being excessively exposed to sunlight. The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.
