Beach sandals sold under the brand name "FlipFlops med SWEDEN" in sizes 36-38 and 42-44 contain harmful chemicals in their plastic straps. The blue straps contain di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) at levels up to 22%, short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCP) at up to 0.35%, and lead at up to 0.1% by weight. The yellow straps contain DBP at up to 11%, di-iso-butyl phthalate (DIBP) at up to 0.49%, and SCCP at up to 0.25% by weight. These chemicals may harm children's reproductive systems and pose risks to human health and the environment through persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity.
The product does not comply with the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation and REACH Regulation. An importer initiated a recall of the product from end users effective November 22, 2021. The affected models are identified by multiple model numbers beginning with AP809497.
