Is my product affected?

All terrain vehicle - Sportsman

  • Brand Polaris

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Polaris is recalling certain Sportsman all-terrain vehicles due to a steering safety defect. The vehicles have an oversized ball joint stem mounting hole and/or improperly tightened steering knuckle pinch bolts that can reduce the clamp force needed to keep the ball joint stem in place. This reduced clamp force may allow unwanted movement between the ball joint stem and steering knuckle, which can cause accelerated wear and potentially lead to loss of control of the vehicle.

Polaris is voluntarily withdrawing the affected vehicles from the market and taking corrective actions. To determine if your vehicle is affected, consumers should check the attached list of specific model years and VIN numbers. The source does not specify what remedy or action an affected consumer should take beyond checking whether their vehicle is included in the recall.

Hazard

The product poses a risk of injuries because an oversized ball joint stem mounting hole, and/or improperly tightened steering knuckle pinch bolts, could cause a reduction in the clamp force required to retain the ball joint stem in the steering knuckle. Reduced clamp force may not adequately retain the ball joint stem in all conditions, which can result in unwanted movement between the ball joint stem and the steering knuckle. This movement can lead to accelerated wear between the ball joint mounting stem and the steering knuckle, leading to loss of control.
