What happened

Women's espadrille-style shoes (model E-692J in black) sold in Italy contain dimethylfumarate (DMF), a chemical substance that is strongly sensitizing on contact with skin and banned in consumer products. The DMF was found in the shoe's upper and insole at 1.1 mg/kg, in the canvas cord outsole at 8.6 mg/kg, and in the cardboard packaging at 0.7 mg/kg. These shallow crepe-soled shoes are made of fabric in the toe box and heel counter with a cord attachment system and a black fabric insole.

Espadrille-style ladies' footwear with shallow crepe soles. Black, made of fabric (toe box and heel counter) and cord, with visible stitches attaching the rubber sole to the sole of the shoe. The fabric toe box and heel counter are attached by a black cord which keeps them on the foot, so that the shoe does not slip off. The insole of the item is also made of black fabric.
