Two types of decorative lighting chains have been recalled due to electric shock hazards. The first product is a 100-light chain with yellow, green, blue, and red miniature bulbs in a blue cardboard box featuring Santa Claus imagery. The second is a 180-light chain with the same colored bulbs in a red cardboard box marked "WR" with "180 lamps, 8 programs" text. Both products have supply cords with only basic insulation and undersized conductors, plus plugs that do not meet required dimensional standards. The products do not comply with the Low Voltage Directive or European standards EN 60598 and EN 60083.
Authorities have ordered a sales ban and withdrawal of these products from the market. The recall was initiated by Bulgaria. The source document does not specify what actions consumers who own these products should take.

The products pose a risk of electric shock because: - the lighting chains are class 0 appliances as the two conductor supply cord has basic insulation only, - the conductors of the supply cord have a cross-section area of less than 0.5 mm²,- the dimensions of the plug are less than those required by the standard. The product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60598 and EN 60083.
