Two musical toy telephones—the Cartoon Phone (model 2216) and the Novel Telephone (model 2216A-9)—have been recalled due to serious safety hazards. The Cartoon Phone poses a choking risk because its plastic keys can detach easily and fit within a small parts cylinder, and a strangulation risk because its spiral cord exceeds 220 mm in length. The Novel Telephone presents a strangulation hazard due to its handset cord being longer than 220 mm. Both products fail to meet the Toys Directive and the European standard EN 71. The products were manufactured in China and sold in cardboard boxes; the Cartoon Phone was marked for ages 3 and up.
