What happened

Decorative biscuits sold under the brand Ideal Home Range (IHR), model Christmas Bakery with code AH 252000, have been recalled because they resemble actual food and pose a choking hazard to children. The products consist of six food-imitating decorative items including dark brown and light brown stars, a heart, a round biscuit, and Christmas trees (in dark brown and green-light brown), each approximately 6 centimeters in size with a hole in the middle, packed together in a transparent bag with small red bands. Children may mistake these items for edible cookies, place them in their mouths, and bite off or swallow small pieces that could fit into a small part cylinder, creating a risk of choking or digestive tract obstruction.

The distributor has voluntarily withdrawn the product from the market. The recall was notified by Greece, though the specific date when the withdrawal took effect is unknown. The source does not specify what affected consumers should do to return or dispose of the product.

Hazard

The product poses a risk of choking because due to their characteristic form, appearance, colour and size, the products may be mistaken for a foodstuff (cookies). This may lead children to put them in their mouths, bite off and swallow small parts fitting into the small part cylinder, which could entail the risk of asphyxia or obstruction of the digestive tract. The product does not comply with the Directive 87/357/EEC on the prevention of the risk resulting from the use of certain products designed to resemble foodstuffs.
