Is my product affected?

Battery charger and USB AC DC Adaptor

  • Brand ELCELL/E CELL

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

ELCELL/E CELL battery charger and USB AC DC adaptors (model DPL-168) are being voluntarily withdrawn from the market due to electric shock hazards. The adaptors have inadequate insulation between input and output circuits, rely on solder connections that may fail to hold their position, and have pins that are too small, potentially causing damage to wall sockets or mechanical failure of the adapter itself. The product does not meet required European safety standards.

The adaptor is designed to plug directly into mains sockets and includes a detachable conversion unit for UK use. It has two outputs: one with contacts for battery recharging and one USB socket. The product comes in a heat-sealed transparent package labeled with an "E Cell" logo on a blue background. The source does not specify what affected consumers should do with their adapters.

Hazard

The product poses a risk of electric shock because:1. the internal insulation does not provide adequate insulation between the input and output circuits; 2. the internal connections rely upon solder to maintain their position; 3. the adaptor has inadequately sized pins which could cause damage to the socket or undue strain on the mechanical connections between the base and the cover of the adaptor. The product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and the relevant European standard EN 60950.
