What happened

Cambridge Elevating has recalled certain home elevator models—specifically Elmira, Heritage, and Hybrid models with first or second generation micro-controller systems (BES 1 & BES 2)—due to a defect that allows the landing door to unlock when the elevator is not present, creating a fall hazard. The recall affects elevators with "Cambridge Elevating" printed on the interior label and production dates ranging from January 2, 2009 through November 29, 2017. Affected elevators have an operating panel inside the cab displaying digital information, a stop button, capacity information, and a phone box.

Consumers who own a recalled elevator should immediately stop using it and contact Cambridge Elevating to be directed to a local certified technician who will perform a free repair.
