GE Zoneline® Air Conditioners and Heating Units
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
GE has recalled Zoneline Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner and heating units used primarily in hotels, apartments, and commercial spaces. The units pose a fire risk because moisture from outdoor air can accumulate near the heater when operated with the vent door continuously open. Combined with two shorted electrical components, this moisture can create an electrical ground path and arcing that may cause a fire. The recall affects specific GE models (AZ40E09E, AZ41E07E, AZ41E09E, AZ41E12E, AZ41E15E, AZ61H07E, AZ61H09E, AZ61H12E, and AZ61H15E) with serial numbers beginning with certain letter combinations including AT, AV, AZ, DT, DV, DZ, FT, FV, FZ, and others through ZZ.
According to the record, affected consumers should contact GE to schedule a free repair and should not operate the PTAC unit with the external vent open while awaiting repair. Property maintenance personnel can locate the vent door control lever on the left side of the unit by removing the front panel and should ensure the lever is in the closed position. The model and serial numbers needed to verify if a unit is included in the recall are printed on the rating plate visible after removing the front panel.
