What happened

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Louisville Ladder Group LLC announced a recall of approximately 10,700 RIDGID® brand fiberglass stepladders in 6-foot, 8-foot, and 10-foot lengths due to a fall hazard. Some ladders have steps that are too short and improperly attached to the ladder frame, creating a risk that the step could detach during use. Louisville Ladder received one report of a step detaching but no injuries have been reported. The affected ladders are red plastic top models with gray railings (model numbers R-3011-06, R-3011-08, and R-3011-10) manufactured between April and July 1999 and sold at Home Depot stores nationwide during that period for $119 to $223.

According to the recall notice, consumers who own these ladders should inspect them for a short step that is improperly attached and stop using the ladder immediately if one is found. Consumers can call Louisville Ladder at (888) 318-7911 or visit www.ridgidladder.com/notice.htm to have the company help determine if the steps are properly attached. If the steps are not attached properly, consumers should return the ladders to the nearest Home Depot store for an exchange or refund. Ladders with "OK" marked on the inside of the front rail have been inspected and are not part of this recall.
