Wellmax International Inc. is recalling nearly 1 million white extension cords in lengths of 6, 9, 12, 15, and 20 feet due to undersized wires and reverse polarity receptacles that create fire, shock, and electrocution hazards. The recalled cords have labeling imprinted in black reading "SPT-2...18AWGX2C...60...C" and were packaged in green cardboard display sleeves labeled "HOUSEHOLD EXTENSION CORD...SPT-2...MADE IN CHINA." The cords were sold at discount and tool stores in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Texas between March 1997 and November 1998 for approximately $1 to $2. No injuries have been reported.
According to the recall notice, consumers should stop using the cords immediately and return them to Wellmax International, Inc., 2300 E. Artesia Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90805 for a full refund plus reimbursement of return shipping costs. Consumers must include their return address, phone number, a copy of the receipt or the price paid, the name of the retail store where purchased, and the cost of return shipping.
