What happened

Roman Inc. is recalling approximately 800 train-shaped candleholder sets due to a fire hazard. The sets consist of an acrylic locomotive and two acrylic boxcars with brass candle receptacles and brass side plates reading "MERRY CHRISTMAS." The candleholders can melt and ignite when exposed to direct flame. One incident has been reported in which a candleholder melted and ignited a bathroom vanity, though no injuries have occurred. The sets were sold nationwide in card, gift, hardware, and specialty stores between March 1996 and March 1997 for approximately $16 and are identifiable by a hang tag labeled with "Roman Inc...Made in Taiwan...Item 76530."

Consumers should stop using the candleholder sets immediately. According to the recall notice, consumers can receive a refund by returning the sets to the store where purchased or by mailing them to Roman Inc. at 555 Lawrence Avenue, Roselle, IL 60172, with postage reimbursed. Announce Recall of Candleholder Sets WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Roman Inc. of Roselle, Ill., is recalling about 800 train candleholder sets. The candleholders can melt and ignite when exposed to a direct flame, presenting a fire hazard. CPSC and Roman Inc. are aware of one report of a candleholder melting and igniting a bathroom vanity. No injuries have been reported. The candleholder set includes one locomotive and two boxcars. The locomotive and boxcars are acrylic and the candle receptacle is brass. Each boxcar has brass plates on the sides which read, "MERRY CHRISTMAS." There is a hang tag attached to the set, which is labeled in part, "Roman Inc...Made in Taiwan...Item 76530." Card, gift, hardware and specialty stores nationwide sold the candleholder sets from March 1996 through March 1997 for about $16. Consumers should stop using the candleholder sets immediately.
