What happened

United Tradeline Inc. is recalling approximately 4,400 battery-operated toy cars called the Hot Pet Car due to a choking hazard. The toy is a red car about 3.5 inches wide, 5 inches high, and 8 inches long, featuring a yellow dog with orange ears wearing a purple bow. When activated, the wheels turn, the toy plays music and sound effects, and these sounds can also be triggered by pressing the center of the spare tire on the trunk. Small pieces can break off the car, which presents a serious aspiration hazard to young children. The toys were primarily sold in small retail and toy stores in the Los Angeles area from April through May 1997 for about $3, and were made in China with model number HK-736. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately take these toys away from young children. According to the record, affected consumers should contact United Tradeline Inc. at (888) 898-9296 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. PDT Monday through Friday, or write to the company at 11800 E. Clark Street, Arcadia, CA 91006, for information on a refund.
