What happened

Moulinex S.A. is recalling approximately 120,000 juice extractors because the filter and lid can break apart and project metal and plastic pieces into the air, potentially causing cuts and lacerations. The recalled model is the Moulinex model 864 with date codes before July 1, 1995—specifically those with 5-digit date codes where the last three numbers are lower than 075, or 6-digit date codes where the last three numbers are lower than 795. The model number and date code can be found on the bottom of the unit. These juice extractors were sold in department, mass merchandise, and appliance stores nationwide between 1990 and 1995 for approximately $50 to $80. Moulinex has received three reports of the filter and lid breaking apart, with one consumer sustaining cuts to their fingers.

According to the recall notice, consumers who own a recalled juice extractor should stop using it immediately and call the Moulinex (Krups) consumer service number at 1-800-526-5377 to request a prepaid shipping label. Once the product is returned, it will either be repaired and sent back to the consumer or, if parts are unavailable, a refund will be issued.
