What happened

Atico International Inc. is recalling approximately 74,400 Lighted Magic Faucet mugs and about 22,400 Lighted Magic Fountain mugs due to a fire hazard. These novelty mugs feature a clear plastic cup sitting on a black round base that contains an electric motor. When powered on, water recycles from the base up through a plastic tube into either a suspended faucet or soda can before falling back into the mug, creating an illusion of water pouring from mid-air, and colored lights illuminate the mug. The motors in these products could overheat, creating a potential fire risk. The mugs were sold at Walgreens and Eckerd Drugs stores nationwide between April 1996 and January 1997 for approximately $20. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should stop using these mugs immediately and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Atico International at (800) 645-3867.
