Pacific Cycle USA is recalling approximately 10,000 "Posi Track" suspension forks used on 1994 and 1995 mountain bikes sold at Toys "R" Us and Target stores between May 1994 and August 1995. The forks, which have a black "Posi Track" decal on each fork blade and are secured to an alloy crown by two four-millimeter allen head bolts, may crack or separate, causing riders to lose control and fall. The company has received 150 reports of cracking or separation, with eight incidents resulting in injuries including facial and dental injuries, concussions, fractured noses and jaws, cuts, and bruises.
Consumers who own bicycles with the defective suspension forks should stop using them immediately and call Pacific's service department at (800) 283-3303 for a free replacement fork. Note that "Posi Track" forks with stanchions welded to the crown or with colored decals are not involved in this recall.
