What happened

Radio Flyer, Inc. is recalling approximately 24,975 Tornado and Power Tricycles because a weld on the front fork may fail during use, potentially causing a child to fall. The recall affects four specific models: the 300 Tornado (blue with light blue trim), PTG Power Trike (green with red trim), PTP Power Trike (purple with pink trim), and PTB Power Trike (blue with light blue trim), all with approximately 12-inch diameter front wheels. The Tornado tricycles were sold between August 1, 1994 and December 31, 1994 through warehouse club outlets in the Western United States for about $29.99, while the Power Trike models were sold nationwide through various retailers from August 1, 1994 through June 1995 for approximately $39.99. One incident of minor injuries from a fall related to fork weld failure has been reported.

Consumers should inspect their tricycle to determine if the 1.5-inch washer between the front fork and frame is the same color as the frame; if so, the tricycle is affected and should be taken away from children immediately. Consumers can call Radio Flyer, Inc. at (800) 621-7613 to request a free replacement piece, or they may return the tricycle to the store where it was purchased for an exchange or refund. Tricycles with black 1.5-inch washers are not affected by this recall.
