Various companies are recalling multiple-tube fireworks sold between December 1993 and May 1994. The recalled products include approximately 2,750 "Gorilla Bomb II," "Bombard," and "Alien Invasion" fireworks distributed by Atlas Imports in South Carolina; about 600 "Gorilla Bomb II" fireworks from Neptune Fireworks in Florida; about 300 "Bombard" fireworks from Shelton Fireworks in Missouri; about 64 "Bombard" fireworks from Reichenbach Fireworks Company in Montana and Washington; and about 200 "Bombard 7 Shots" fireworks from Bethany Sales in Illinois and Wisconsin. Each product consists of seven 11-inch mortar tubes connected by a single fuse.
These fireworks pose an explosion and projectile hazard because they may tip over during use and fire horizontally or at various angles, potentially killing or seriously injuring nearby people. The CPSC is aware of incidents where similar fireworks tipped over and resulted in two deaths. According to the recall notice, consumers should stop using these fireworks immediately and return them to the stores or stands where they were purchased for a full refund. About 200 "BOMBARD 7 SHOTS" fireworks distributed by BETHANY SALES CO., INC in Illinois and Wisconsin from March 1994 to May 1994. During use, these fireworks may tip over and fire horizontally or at various angles, killing or seriously injuring people nearby. Although most of the recalled fireworks met current federal requirements, the Commission has initiated a rulemaking proceeding to address the tip over hazard.
