What happened

New York Lighter Company is recalling approximately 23,750 non-refillable "Good Time Troll" cigarette lighters that were sold at convenience stores nationwide from January through July 1993 for about $3.00 each. The lighters feature one of four troll character designs—"Party Troll" holding drinks, "Rockin' Troll" playing guitar, "King Troll" smoking a cigar, or "Lucky Troll" holding a four-leaf clover—and are marked on the flue with "THAILAND" and "C-LITE."

The lighters are being recalled because their troll character designs are very attractive to children and may invite play, which could result in fires and serious burn injuries. Consumers who have these lighters should place them out of reach of children and then call 1-800-626-4732 to receive special prepaid packaging and instructions for returning the lighters. Upon return to the company, consumers will receive a free gift.
