What happened

Builders Square and Pay-N-Pak, Inc. sold outdoor fluorescent light fixtures that pose an electric shock hazard. The Builders Square "Wall Bracket Lights" (SKU 9300117) were sold nationwide from July 1991 through March 1992 for $14.97 each, with approximately 9,300 units recalled. Pay-N-Pak sold similar "Deck Lite Fixtures" (model numbers 302048 and 302049) in the western United States in unknown quantities. Both products lack weatherproof ballasts and proper electrical grounding, which means rainwater can seep inside and short circuit the energized ballast terminals to the metal fixture, creating a risk of electrocution.

If you own one of these fixtures, you should immediately stop using it and disconnect the power. Consumers with Builders Square fixtures should remove the fixture and return it to any Builders Square store for a full refund. Consumers with Pay-N-Pak fixtures should disconnect and discard them, as the company is no longer in business.
