Newco, Inc. is recalling its "Swing-N-Slide" molded plastic Teddy Bear Swing, designed for children under 45 pounds, because the waist and crotch straps can pull out of the seat, allowing children to fall and be injured. The company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission learned of this hazard from three incidents in which toddlers slid out of the swings when the straps detached, resulting in minor cuts and bruises. Approximately 13,000 swings were sold nationwide between February and June 1993 for about $34 each in hardware and home center stores.
Consumers should immediately stop using the swings. According to the recall notice, consumers should cut off the waist and crotch straps and plastic safety bar and return these parts to Newco to receive a free redesigned Teddy Bear Swing.
