What happened

Century Products Company is recalling approximately 181,000 of its 1991 model wind-up infant swings with "Whisper-Wind" motors due to a laceration hazard. The company has received 31 reports of injuries, most occurring when consumers attempted to open the motor housing or repair non-working swings. The powerful coiled spring inside can unwind rapidly and forcefully if the plastic cover is removed, causing puncture wounds and lacerations. The recall affects five swing models (numbered 12-319, 12-329, 12-344, 12-345, and 12-349) that sold for approximately $30-80 and have manufacturing date codes 9101 through 9112, found on a white label on the bottom of the swing seat.

According to the recall notice, affected consumers should not attempt to disassemble the swing or remove the motor housing. The source states that consumers should discard or destroy the product. For more information, consumers can contact Century Products Company's customer service number at 800-345-4109. The recall notice notes that the replacement program is no longer available.
