What happened

T.G. and Y Stores Company is recalling approximately 15,000 toy metal and plastic airplanes distributed between July 1983 and May 1984 due to choking hazards. The toy airplane is orange-red in color, marked with "SHINWA" and "NOT-600 Made in Japan" on the underside of the wings, and bears the identification "N4287S" on the top of the fuselage and wings. When tested, the Consumer Product Safety Commission found that several components including the propeller, front wheels, and rear wheels came off easily and were small enough to pose choking risks. Additionally, the wheel axles and edges of the fuselage were found to have sharp edges. Although no incidents have been reported, the Commission believes the toy may present choking, aspiration, and ingestion hazards.

According to the record, consumers with infants and young children should return the toy airplane to T.G. and Y Stores Company for a complete refund. Consumers may contact T.G. and Y Stores Company at 405/528-3141 or the Consumer Product Safety Commission's Toll-Free Hotline at 800-638-CPSC for further information. A teletypewriter number for the hearing impaired is (301) 595-7054.
