What happened

Approximately 17,000 portable cribs manufactured by Questor Juvenile Furniture Company are being recalled because the bottom of the cribs may separate from the sides, allowing infants to fall to the floor. The recall specifically involves model 320 "Kantwet Trav-L-Cribs" manufactured between January and June 1979 and sold for approximately $35 in retail stores east of the Rocky Mountains. These cribs can be identified by checking the white "law tag" attached to the mattress—only cribs without a date code on the reverse side of the tag are affected. Since 1979, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has been informed of 36 incidents in which infants fell when the soft vinyl basket became unstitched from the net sides, resulting in four reported injuries.

Consumers who own a non-date-coded model 320 "Kantwet Trav-L-Crib" can obtain a free replacement unit by mailing a six-inch-by-six-inch swatch of material cut from the vinyl basket along with the white law tag from the mattress to "Trav-L-Crib," 1801 Commerce Drive, Piqua, Ohio, 45356.
