What happened

Radio Shack is recalling more than 150,000 lead kits for electrical test meters due to a shock hazard. The kits, which consist of 11 pieces including two probes used to test electrical current, were manufactured between 1971 and June 1980 and sold nationwide in Radio Shack stores for $4.99 each. The probes are designed so that metal remains exposed even when fully inserted into the lead wire tips, creating a potential shock hazard. One consumer reported receiving a shock from the product.

According to the recall notice, consumers should return their kits to the nearest Radio Shack store for a full refund. The kits can be identified by catalog number 270-332 on the package. Consumers can find store locations in local telephone directories or by writing to Radio Shack at One Tandy Center, Floor 1800, Fort Worth, Texas, 76102. Those wishing to verify the model number can contact the CPSC's toll-free hotline at 800-638-2772.
