Plasma Flat Panel Televisions with Ambilight Feature

Philips is recalling certain 42- and 50-inch plasma flat panel televisions from 2005 that feature Ambilight technology, an ambient lighting feature that projects soft light onto the wall behind the TV. The recall affects specific model numbers (42PF9630A/37, 50PF9630A/37, and 50PF9830A/37) manufactured between April and August 2005 with serial numbers within the specified ranges. Capacitors inside the left and right side of the back cabinet can arc, creating a safety risk.
Consumers who own an affected television should immediately turn off the Ambilight feature. The model and serial number can be found on the label on the back of the TV or by entering the keystrokes 123654 on the remote control to display a customer service menu (the serial number appears as the production code on line 04). Affected consumers should contact Philips for instructions on receiving free in-home service to have their TV repaired at no cost.

In the menu, line 03 displays the type number and line 04 displays the production code (identical to the serial number of the set). Press the MENU button on the remote to exit the CSM.
