C & A Scientific Co. is recalling metal alcohol burners due to a defect in the soldering around the copper tubing wick. The defective soldering can allow alcohol to leak from the burner, creating a fire and burn hazard. The recalled burners are stainless steel tanks with screw-on steel lids, measuring 3 inches in diameter by 3½ inches high, and have a looped copper tubing wick soldered to the top of the lid. The burners also include a separate metal snuffer and heat shield. Item number 97-5320 is printed on the packaging.
Consumers who own recalled metal alcohol burners should stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase for either a replacement or refund.

The metal alcohol burner consists of a stainless steel tank with a screw-on steel lid. A copper tubing wick in the shape of a loop is soldered on the top of the burner's lid. The burner and lid measure 3 inches in diameter by 3½ inches high. The burner also has a separate metal top, which fits over the copper wick to act as a snuffer, and a metal heat shield designed to sit on top of the lid.
