Mammut Barryvox Avalanche Transceivers - A device worn by backcountry skiers, and used to help locate a buried avalanche victim
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Climb High Inc. is recalling 2004/2005 model Opto 3000 Avalanche Transceivers sold under the Barryvox brand name. The plastic casings on these units can crack if water enters the device, causing the transceiver to malfunction. If a transceiver fails during an avalanche rescue, a buried victim may not be located quickly enough, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
The recalled red and black transceivers have "Mammut" and "Barryvox" printed on the front. Affected units have serial numbers (located in the battery compartment under the UPC code) in these ranges: M0080000 through M0088419, M0089616 through M0089800, and M0090000 through M0090419. The recalled units were shipped with an instructional CD and boxes marked "Bonus CD Included." According to the record, consumers should stop using the transceivers immediately and contact Climb High for a free replacement.
