The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and GE have announced a recall of electric coil top freestanding ranges and wall ovens due to faulty wiring that can melt and cause the oven to short circuit. The affected ranges are 30 inches wide with rear controls from Hotpoint, General Electric, Americana, and Kenmore brands, while the recalled wall ovens are 27- and 30-inch models from Kenmore and General Electric brands, where the lower oven is controlled by a knob without self-clean capability and the upper oven has self-clean capability. When the wiring fails, the appliance can stop working and pose an electrical shock hazard to consumers.
According to the recall record, consumers who own affected appliances should stop using them immediately and contact GE to schedule a repair at no charge.
