What happened

PetSmart has recalled Top Fin brand plastic aquarium heaters due to insufficient grounding that creates a risk of electrical shock. The recall affects all 50-, 100-, 150-, 200-, and 250-watt models, which are black cylinders approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 13 inches tall. The recalled heaters have model numbers HT50, HT100, HT150, HT200, or HT250, and lot numbers 1839, 1901, 1903, 1904, 1907, 1908, or 1910. You can identify these products by the "Top Fin," "Premium Aquarium Heater," model number, and wattage printed on the side near the top, with the lot number printed below "Made in China."

Consumers who own a recalled heater should immediately stop using it, unplug it, and remove it from the aquarium. The heater should then be returned to any PetSmart store for a full refund.

Recalled heaters have model number HT50, HT100, HT150, HT200 or HT250. Lot numbers for the recalled heaters are 1839, 1901, 1903, 1904, 1907, 1908 and 1910. "Top Fin," "Premium Aquarium Heater," the model number and the heater's wattage are printed on the side of the heater near the top. Below that, the lot number is printed beneath the words "Made in China."
