What happened

Hitachi Koki is recalling twelve models of hand-held gasoline-powered grass trimmers sold under the Hitachi and Tanaka brand names because they can overheat, creating fire and burn hazards. The recalled Hitachi models are CG22EAB(SLP), CG22EAD(SLP), CG22EAS(SLP), CG24EASP(SL), and CG27EASP(SL), while the Tanaka models are TCG22EAB(SLP), TCG22EAD(SLP), TCG22EAS(SLP), TCG24EASP(SL), TCG27EASP(SL), TCG40EAS(LP), and TCG40EAS(P). The affected trimmers have either a green engine cover (Hitachi) or orange engine cover (Tanaka), with the brand logo on the circular plate of the starter pull housing where the model and serial numbers are also located.

Consumers who own a recalled trimmer with a serial number beginning with J, P, or a number should immediately stop using it and contact Hitachi Koki U.S.A. for instructions on returning the product for a free repair.

The Hitachi or Tanaka logo is printed on the circular plate on the starter pull housing. Model and serial numbers are also located on the circular plate.
