Jotul North America has recalled four models of gas fireplace inserts sold under the Jotul and Scan brand names. The inserts, which fit into existing vented fireplaces and burn natural gas or liquid propane, contain electrical wiring that can contact the metal rating plate inside the unit, creating electrical shock and burn hazards. The recalled models are the Jotul GI 450 DVII (serial numbers 30001–31056), Jotul GI 450 DV TSI, Scan 45i (serial numbers 1001–1182), and Scan 45i TSI.
Consumers who own a recalled fireplace insert should immediately stop using it and unplug it. They should then check the model and serial numbers on the metal rating plate located inside the bottom front panel of the insert. Affected consumers should contact the store where they purchased the insert or contact Jotul directly to schedule a free repair.

The fireplace inserts are cast iron or steel and have a glass front, ceramic fiber logs, a gas burner and an electrical cord. They measure about 17 inches by 32 inches.
