  • Brand J.C. Penney Purchasing Corp., of Plano, Texas

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Nan Far Woodworking is recalling Rockland Furniture brand drop-side cribs that were sold exclusively at JcPenney between 2005 and 2008. The cribs' drop sides can malfunction, detach, or fail, creating spaces where infants or toddlers can become trapped, wedged, or strangled, or from which they can fall. Drop-side failures can result from incorrect assembly, age-related wear and tear, or defects in the plastic hardware used to attach the sides. Six specific crib models are affected, and consumers can identify recalled cribs by looking for a rectangular label on the lower headboard panel listing the model number.

Consumers with recalled cribs should immediately stop using them and contact Nan Far Woodworking for a free repair kit that will immobilize the drop side. Until repairs are made, families should use an alternate safe sleep environment for their child, such as a bassinet, play yard, or toddler bed depending on the child's age.

Hazard

The cribs' drop sides can malfunction, detach or otherwise fail, causing part of the drop side to fall out of position, creating a space into which an infant or toddler can roll and become wedged or entrapped, which can lead to strangulation or suffocation. A child can also fall out of the crib. Drop-side incidents can also occur due to incorrect assembly and with age-related wear and tear.

What should I do?

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and contact Nan Far Woodworking for a free repair kit that will immobilize the drop side. In the meantime, find an alternate, safe sleep environment for the child such as a bassinet, play yard or toddler bed depending on the child's age.
